This time, there is a heated argument between a number of House of Representatives members, including the party’s deputy governor candidate Muritala Garo and the majority leader of the chamber, Ado Doguwa.

According to Cezza’s Blog, Garo had claimed earlier in the week that the majority leader had assaulted him after the latter disrupted a meeting of state stakeholders.

Doguwa has, however, also refuted the assertion, claiming that Garo is in charge of seizing the State apparatus while excluding members of the National Assembly.

The deputy governorship candidate, who comes from a well-known Garo family, was the commissioner for local government and chieftaincy issues, a post that allowed him to accrue a lot of authority in the State, according to persons with knowledge of the situation. Additionally, he is rumored to be wed to Atiku Abubakar’s daughter.

Garo expressed interest in running for governor, but Governor Umar Ganduje chose Nasiru Gawuna instead. He was given the running mate position in an effort to attract the young Garo.

In contrast, Doguwa, a member of the House of Representatives since 2003, is one of the members anticipated to express interest in being the 10th Assembly’s speaker if he is elected.

Given that Doguwa won the 2019 elections via a rerun and is currently fighting for reelection to the House, this most recent dispute may be a sign of a serious issue within the party.

You may remember that the Kano APC nearly disintegrated during the primaries due to an internal issue that saw numerous politicians defect to the NNPP. By permitting two senators from the State to run again during the primaries, Ganduje was able to stop the flow while also suspending his bid for the Senate.

But it looks that the State’s issue is back, and Atiku and Rabiu Kwankwaso are both waiting to take advantage of the problem’s consequences.

Races in Kano and 2023

The votes cast in Kano State, which has long been the largest voting state, have helped determine the results of previous presidential elections. Buhari defeated Atiku in Kano State in 2019 with 1,464,768 (78.9%) of the total votes cast, defeating him by 391,593 votes.

Along with Mr. Atiku of the PDP, Kwankwaso and his NNPP are among the favorites in the State now that Buhari is out of the running.

Before the elections, Tinubu has placed the State first for months. Since he announced his intention to run for president, Tinubu has spent the most time in Kano, followed by Lagos and Abuja.

He plans to hold two rallies in Kano State, the first in January and the second just before the campaign’s grand finale in Lagos State.

APC will lose the State if the problem is allowed to continue, according to Doguwa, who stated during a news conference at the National Assembly on Thursday that Rabiu Kwankwaso remained influential in the State despite the side talks.

“He (Garo) served as the commissioner for local government and chieftaincy matters before being selected as the running mate. You journalists undoubtedly are familiar with the names of such ministries in the State. The ministry of petroleum resources is what we call them. This person was given the chance to work for a ministry that had a staggering amount of funding.

“His current final wife is Atiku Abubakar’s daughter. When I went to see him after he was denied the ticket, he informed me that since I had been screwed over by you, I would prefer to be the president’s in-law rather than a deputy governor who would treat me like a messenger. He is working to become the next president’s in-law and has no interest in working for the APC, the man claimed.

In the press conference, Doguwa also commended Kwankwaso and said he would be prepared to make amends with the former governor of the State if he is open to doing so.

He clarified that his beef with Kwankwaso is not political, but rather personal. He said that the ex-single governor’s phone call will end the tension between them.

Doguwa emphasized that the APC should forget Kano if the party leadership is not prepared to step in.

The conflict between Messrs. Doguwa and Garo may have cost Tinubu’s party the State’s 5,927,565 votes.
