The likelihood that the bodies are those of missing sex workers in the vicinity is being looked into by police.
A 21-year-old has been detained for the victims’ murders, according to police spokesman Brigadier Brenda Muridili, who confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday, October 10, 2022.
The victims are thought to have died some time ago.
Following the discovery of six bodies at a building in the Johannesburg CBD on Sunday, October 9, 2022, the police in Johannesburg arrested a 21-year-old male for murder, according to the statement.
“Due to an unpleasant odor emanating from one of the rooms, the police were called to the building. At that time, a woman’s body was discovered. The suspect, who is thought to have been the last person seen with the deceased woman, was located by police after a preliminary investigation.”
“According to reports, the suspect was spotted with the deceased woman on October 2, 2022, around 20:00. She was last seen the day before her body was found on Sunday morning. Her attire matched the description of one of the recently reported missing people.
“Five more victims were found outside the building, where there is a makeshift workshop and trash dumpsters, after the police returned to the scene to question the suspect.
“Unfortunately, the decomposition stages of the other five bodies are advanced. Forensic examination will be performed on them in order to identify them.”
The Provincial Murder and Robbery section is conducting an investigation, and the suspect will face six counts of murder charges.
