The group urged President Muhammadu Buhari to instruct Chris Ngige, the minister of labor, and Sylva Okolieaboh, the acting comptroller general, to undo the deductions.

ASUU members must get their full salary for the duration of their eight-month strike, according to SERAP.

Kolawole Oluwadare, the deputy director, claimed in an open letter that the deductions amounted to the professors being punished for exercising their right to strike.

The group said that the deductions go against the ASUU members’ constitutional entitlement to a livable wage that is sufficient for themselves and their families.

It said, “Strikes are a crucial tool at the disposal of workers and their organizations to safeguard their interests.

According to SERAP, the Nigerian Constitution, ILO agreements, and human rights treaties to which the nation is a state party all safeguard industrial actions.

The letter threatened to use the legal system to force the Buhari administration to abide by its demands in the public interest.
