This month, the murderer who had boasted of having slain 48 women passed away from cancer while being shackled to a hospital bed.
According to Edinburgh City Council, it made arrangements for the murderer’s body to be cremated on Thursday, October 13.
Tobin passed away on Saturday, October 8 at the age of 76 after refusing to take food or medication after breaking his hip. The cremation took held in secrecy. Additionally, his ashes were dispersed at sea.
The Sunday Mail claims that the municipality was compelled to make the arrangements after no one claimed the remains of the convicted murderer.
Tobin was discovered to have murdered three women, but it is believed that there were many more.
He was incarcerated for the rape and murder of 23-year-old Police student Angelika Kluk, whose body was discovered in a Glasgow church in 2006.
The Scottish killer, who is regarded as one of the worst serial murders in UK history, was already serving a life sentence for the 1991 killings of 18-year-old Dinah McNicol and 15-year-old Vicky Hamilton, both of Redding, near Falkirk.
In the yard of his former home in Margate, Kent, their bodies were discovered 17 years later, buried there.
He had already been found guilty of raping two girls in their early teens in 1993.
The Sunday Mail was informed by a source that this was handled promptly after his death. It was deemed preferable that his remains were dispersed in the water, much like those of serial killers Robert Black and Angus Sinclair.
His cause of death was listed as “unascertained” on his death certificate, which was filed the day he was cremated, indicating that an investigation was still ongoing. But according to others familiar with the situation, he had terminal cancer.
The cremation was carried out, according to the council. According to a spokeswoman, Peter Tobin’s remains were burned in accordance with Section 87 of the Burials and Cremation (Scotland) Act 2016.
“The cremation’s ashes were scattered into the sea.” The victims of his actions and their loved ones are in the hearts of the Council.
His ex-wife Cathy Wilson, 52, expressed her relief at his passing but expressed sympathy for the families of the alleged victims after he decided to take his secrets with him.
