Graham Potter’s return to Brighton & Hove Albion was marred by a 4-1 loss in the Premier League on Saturday, which was his first loss since taking over Chelsea.

Last month, Potter departed Brighton to take over as Chelsea’s head coach in place of departing coach Thomas Tuchel. He made his first trip back to the south coast to take on his old team while sporting a nine-match unbeaten streak across all competitions.
However, the home team got off to a flying start at the Amex Stadium against Potter’s confused team, taking the lead through a well-taken Leandro Trossard goal inside just five minutes.
Breathless Brighton persisted, and three minutes before halftime, Trevoh Chalobah added a third to make it three for Brighton when Ruben Loftus-Cheek deflected a corner into his own net.
Following the interval, Chelsea made a strong comeback and tied the game three minutes into the second half on Kai Havertz’s header. However, the damage had already been done and Potter’s squad was unable to mount a comeback.
Roberto De Zerbi, Potter’s successor, had a great afternoon thanks to Pascal Gross’s last-second fourth goal. Brighton moved up to seventh place in the standings with their first victory under De Zerbi, while Chelsea remained in fifth place, eight points behind league leaders Manchester City.
