The party declared that they were prepared to take the High Court decision to the Appeal Court in a statement that was released Wednesday evening and was signed by their State Chairman, Ambassador Ogar Osim.

For 12 years, Hon. Daniel Asuquo, also known as Dansuki, served as a representative for the federal Akamkpa/Biase constituency in the House of Representatives.

The court that declared the Labour Party’s Calabar primary elections for the Southern Senatorial District of Cross River State invalid was presided over by Justice A.R. Muhammed.

Asuquo was declared ineligible by the court, and the Independent National Electoral Commission was instructed to immediately remove him from the list of candidates.

The APC candidate for the same senate seat, Asuquo Ekpenyong Jr., a former commissioner for finance in the State, had taken the LP candidate to court on the grounds that the LP did not follow the rules when holding the senatorial primary.

Osim responded by disputing the decision of the High Court, claiming that they followed all procedures and criteria.

“Asuquo officially resigned from his former party,” he said in his explanation. His letter of resignation was duly released and widely disseminated.

He officially approached our party and enrolled in his neighborhood ward in accordance with the party’s charter.

The primary election that produced Hon. Daniel Asuquo as our candidate for the Cross River Southern Senatorial District election was conducted according to the rules, our party wants to reaffirm.

The security agencies, INEC officials, and party dignitaries from the national headquarters were present during the primary election, according to the LP chairman.

He claimed that the other parties’ senatorial candidates were intimidated by the popularity of their own candidate, who had served the Akamkpa/Biase federal constituency for 12 years in the green chambers.
