This comes after the debate over Kashim Shettima’s selection as Bola Tinubu’s running partner.
Recall that Kashim Shettima, a former governor of Borno state, was chosen by Tinubu, the party’s presidential candidate, to serve as his running mate.
Nigerians have persisted in protesting the party’s choice, calling it the height of insensitivity.
However, the group claimed in a statement released on Saturday and published by Yakubu Dogara, the former speaker of the House of Representatives, that the Muslim-Muslim ticket was risky and detrimental to the nation’s unity.

RESOLUTION OF THE CONSULTATIVE MEETING OF NORTHERN LEADERS HELD ON OCTOBER 8TH, 2022, AT THE NAF CONFERENCE CENTRE, KADO DISTRICT, ABUJA.
In accordance with the statement they issued on July 29, 2022, the APC Northern Christian leaders met with some Muslim brothers and sisters today across the 19 northern states and the FCT and came to the following decisions:
that we have decided to collaborate with a goal of promoting peace, harmony, and national cohesion
to collaborate and collectively establish a pan-Nigerian political platform that will foster belonging, inclusivity, and togetherness among Nigeria’s citizens.
Being aware of the multi-ethnic, multi-religious, and multi-cultural makeup of Nigeria, we think that voting along religious lines and supporting candidates of the same faith may have dangerously detrimental implications among our diverse populations, which would impede nation-building. As a result, we have decided to focus our efforts on matters that strengthen our bonds as a nation rather than supporting political attacks on delicate issues including religion.
In light of the foregoing, we have decided to form a committee with the task of developing plans for achieving the goals outlined in this resolution.
