“Don’t panic buy cooking gas – Gas sellers tell Nigerians:

Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), also referred to as cooking gas, should not be purchased in a panic, the Nigerian Association of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketers (NALPGAM) has urged Nigerians.

The warning follows the Force Majeure declaration by Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG) on Monday of last week due to recent flooding that had an impact on its operation in the southern region of Nigeria.

On Sunday, October 23, Mr. Oladapo Olatunbosun, President of NALPGAM, issued the appeal.

According to information that has reached the Association, NLNG has not, as has been rumored, shut down its production facility in Bonny. He stated that NLNG had transported a cargo of LPG for the domestic market on Thursday, October 20, 2022. He reported that the “Alfred Temile,” the designated ship for LPG shipments from the NLNG Plant in Bonny, arrived in Lagos on Thursday to discharge product.

“The public should be aware that NLNG continues to supply LPG, and we shouldn’t allow for a price increase in response to a potential shortage of the good. With the Russian/Ukrainian war upsetting markets and producing shortages, we are already in a difficult situation, he suggested.

According to the President, NLNG has guaranteed the Association that it will continue to produce LPG using the feed gas it receives from its gas suppliers. He also said that production is anticipated to increase after the floodwaters subside.

He issued a warning to middlemen in the value chain not to profit from the market panic brought on by the flood, which has also made it difficult to distribute the production throughout the country.
