Mr. Uchenna Orji, the state’s Commissioner for Information and Orientation, announced this at the conclusion of the Executive Council (EXCO) meeting and added that the state’s Head of Service had been given instructions to thoroughly investigate the ministry employees involved in the theft and take the necessary legal action in accordance with civil service regulations.
Orji stated
“The suspension of both of the officials who were directly in charge of the ministry’s streetlight supervision was accepted by the council.
“The council also learned of the ongoing diesel theft and took note of the alarming amounts of the product lost to people working in the streetlight industry.
Members decided that the Department of State Security (DSS) should look into individuals responsible for streetlight oversight in order to identify the offenders.
“The state’s Head of Service was asked to fully examine the personnel from the ministry who were involved in the theft and take appropriate actions as required by the civil service laws,” the statement reads.
