Eleven alleged members of a feared cult group were detained by Ogun state Police Command agents on October 11 in Sango ota, in the Ado odo Ota local government area of Ogun state.

Moshood Owolabi, Olayemi Arukudu, Yusuf Olajide, Ibukun Adeoye, and Yomi Samson were the suspects. Following information police officers at Sango Ota divisional headquarters received, Faruk Salami, Olukunde Isaac, David Nwuzor, Nwanah Samuel, Ogunrinde Ganiyu, and Chukwuemeka were detained. These suspects are believed to be responsible for a recent string of violent cult clashes in Sango ota and its surrounding areas. When the DPO Sango ota division, SP Saleh Dahiru, received the information, he summoned his men together with members of the So Safe Corps, Amotekun, and Civil Defense Corps and proceeded to the area, where seven of the group members were captured while others managed to flee.
With the aid of neighborhood residents, four further people were taken into custody. They all admitted to being part of the Aiye cult.
Weeds believed to be Colorado, Bonky, and Indian hemp were recovered from them.
The state police command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the arrest and said that CP Lanre Bankole, the police commissioner, had ordered that the suspects be transferred to the anti-cultists unit of the state Criminal Investigation Department for a covert investigation and thorough prosecution.
