Former NUJ leader Chief Fidel Onyeneke applauded President Muhammadu Buhari for awarding Chief Chris Isiguzo, president of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), the coveted National Honor of Member of the Federal Republic (MFR).

Onyeneke, a former chairman of the NUJ, Imo State Council, made the compliment on Wednesday in Owerri while addressing the media.
He said the honor was given in “recognition of the media’s vital contribution to the socio-political and economic progress of the nation.”
He claimed that the recognition had portrayed President Buhari as a charismatic figure who valued hard work and meritocracy highly.
Isiguzo merited the prize, according to Onyeneke, since he elevated the standing of media professionals in the nation as well as the image of the NUJ.
He asserts that the NUJ has established the proper agenda for advancing the development of democracy in the nation under the current administration.
“The media has persisted in serving as a genuine conduit between the government and the people it governs.
Additionally, he added, “journalists have not abdicated their vital duty of exposing the faults of society.
In addition to praising the NUJ President, Onyeneke noted that Isiguzo just became President of the Confederation of African Journalists thanks to his impressive work in the office.
According to Onyeneke, Chief Usiguzo has increased the number of journalists who had access to both domestic and international training and retraining programs.
Isiguzo, who was the second person from the South East to lead NUJ at the national level, was advised by him to use the honor as inspiration to provide more services to the nation and the journalism industry.
He also counseled Isiguzo to continue serving as an example for aspiring journalists.
He urged, “Make greater efforts to guarantee that Nigerian journalists enjoyed a more conducive environment to practice freely and in accordance with the principles of the profession.
