The statement was made by Prof. Ahmed Tijjani Mora, the organization’s chairman of the governing council, on Monday in Abuja at the presentation of the PCN (Establishment) Act 2022, which had just been gazetted.

He claimed that the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria Bill, which was signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari in August 2022, gave the registrar the authority to revoke licenses and regulate all parties involved in the pharmacy distribution chain, including pharmacy technicians, pharmacists, vendors of patent medicines, manufacturers, importers, and wholesalers, among others.

He assured that the punishments for offenses under the previous law, which varied from N250 to N1,000, had been enhanced to N250,000 to N2,000,000 under the new law, and thanked the President and everyone who had helped make that happen.

He claims that the penalties are intended to serve as a deterrence so that people would not fall short of the minimum standard required of them. It is a regulating body, the council. We are a corrective, not punitive organization that does not seek financial gain. Drugs are the issue at hand, and they can mean the difference between life and death. That is why regulation of us is necessary.

According to the new statute, he added, the Federal High Court had the authority to hear and decide on both criminal and civil cases.
