Aliyu made the request at the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, according to a statement released on Thursday in Abuja by Mr. Austine Elemue, the minister’s special assistant on media.

If immediate action was not done to ease the suffering of the people, the minister expressed concern that infectious diseases would spread and cause widespread illness.

Aliyu, as stated by Elemue, emphasized the significance of the Lokoja and Abuja expressway as a key connection between the North and Southern regions of the nation. owing to traffic congestion brought on by the flood.

The minister declared: “Canoes and ferry boats are currently the only means of access to stores and hospitals. Houses were entirely submerged, while smaller buildings were only partially submerged.

“We worry about a disease outbreak. We require medical assistance. Some people lack access to food and clean water.

“As it is, travellers spend more than 11 hours on that stretch without food or drink from the Koton Karfe area before the bridge.”

Aliyu urged for immediate federal assistance in order to stop the flood from reaching the upper land as it was already threatening to do while applauding the state government’s move to evacuate people living along the low plains.

“They had to evacuate them to the upper ground in some extremely deep regions, but even then, water kept coming,” she said. The level has risen by yesterday.

She said, “Your Excellency, may I utilize this opportunity to bring your attention and the Federal Government’s attention to seek support for the people of Kogi State and Kogi State itself.”

However, Aliyu, who also called FEC’s attention to the risk the road posed to commuters, claimed that if not for the drivers’ foresight and skill, numerous trucks may have crashed into the river.

“Your Excellency, this is a gateway city on a main thoroughfare that connects the north and south. This indicates danger, especially for bystanders who might not be familiar with the area, such the drivers of opulent buses.

This is due to the bridge being underwater for the past three to four days, which is terrifying in and of itself.

“I want to draw your and the FEC’s attention to this, so please do.

“As I also ask for my sister’s help, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, to look into this and take immediate action, I also ask my sister, who has always supported places in need.

as we have already counted four casualties, there is danger from disease outbreak to death.
