In the first round of the MLS Playoffs on Monday evening, October 17, Inter Miami’s final match against New York City FC resulted in a heartbreaking 3-0 loss for Inter Miami.
Higuain revealed earlier this month that he would retire at the conclusion of Inter Miami’s season, and at the last whistle, he sobbed as a magnificent career came to an end.
After being acquired by Real Madrid from River Plate in his native Argentina, he scored 121 goals in 264 games, helping the Bernabeu club win three Spanish championships.
Higuain eventually moved on to Napoli, where he spent three seasons scoring prolifically before joining Juventus in 2016.
He supported his group in Turin as they won three Serie A titles and advanced to the 2017 Champions League final.
After a brief stint on loan at Chelsea, where he won the Europa League in 2019, he signed with Inter Miami in September of that same year. He played for the Florida team in 70 games and scored 29 goals.
Higuain scored 31 goals in 75 games for Argentina, whom he represented at three World Cups. When his nation fell 1-0 to Germany in the 2014 final, he assisted in getting them there.
