The governor declared that no case of corruption at the State and local government levels in the State would escape unnoticed with the creation of the commission immediately after the measure was signed into law.

He said that the law’s signing was a part of his administration’s endeavor to capitalize on the federal structure of the nation as set forth in the constitution, which granted States the freedom to carry out duties that are also carried out by federal agencies.

“Today is a significant turning point in our government’s efforts to firmly establish transparency and accountability in governance.

“As you are all aware, there are currently federal and state government organizations that perform complementary functions in the provision of services in the social and business sectors.

Replicating federal agencies at the state level would significantly lighten the load on federal agencies, enhancing their effectiveness and efficiency.

Additionally, he added, “State authorities are better positioned to tackle local concerns, notably in the areas of security, investigation, or prosecution of offenses, because they are close to the people and more familiar with the local culture, custom, and geography.

He said that many States had adopted the law to ensure that governance was free from manifestations of corruption and that it would also present job possibilities for the State’s teeming youths.

He clarified that the panel was created to ensure that there was responsibility, not to target specific individuals for punishment.
