Ikwuano/Umuahia federal constituency seat in the forthcoming 2023 general elections, Rt Hon Chinedum Orji, has said he has no grudges against any Ohuhu indigene.

 

Orji reiterated his unwavering commitments in deepening the present democratic process with quality and development-oriented bills and laws to enhance the welfare and economic survival of the people.

 

Speaking on the backdrops of the outbursts against his bid to occupy the seat of Ikwuano/Umuahia federal

 

constituency of Abia State at the House of Representatives in 2023 by major political and traditional leaders from Ohuhu extraction of the

 

constituency during his recent consultation visit to a cross-section of Ohuhu monarchs at the palace of Eze Nnamdi Ofoegbu in Umuahia, the state capital, Orji declared in clear

 

term that he bore no grudges against any Indigene over outcome of the just concluded National Assembly primaries conducted by the leadership of the PDP in the state.

 

Recall that Orji’s emergence as PDP house of representatives candidate for Ikwuano/Umuahia federal

 

constituency seat election did not go down well with the majority of people from Ohuhu bloc ,as they

 

viewed it as negation and violation of the gentleman agreement and understanding reached among political leaders of clans in the federal constituency.

However, during the consultation visit, Orji noted that every pre-election issues have since been discarded from his memory, and reiterated that the Ikwuano/Umuahia federal

 

constituency deserve a better representation to foster genuine economic and Infrastructural development in all strata of the constituency.

 

The Abia Speaker who is also the son of former Governor Theodore Orji And currently representing Umuahia central state constituency, promised that no clan in

 

Ikwuano/Umuahia federal constituency would be shortchanged in dispensation of the dividends of democracy, and further assured even development in the nine clans of the area.

 

Orji also disclosed that the ongoing construction of the mini stadium in Williams Secondary School, Afugiri, which he attracted will be named after the late Premier of the Eastern

 

Region of Nigeria during the first republic, Dr Michael Okpara, as a way of immortalizing him, describing late Okpara as a great son of Ohuhu and Igbo nation.

 

He further described Ohuhu land as a special land and expressed immense gratitude to traditional rulers for the maximum and steady support given to him over the years.

 

On his part while receiving the Abia in his palace at Umudiawa community in Umuahia North Local

 

Government area of Abia, Eze Nnamdi Ofoegbu flanked by other monarchs from Ohuhu clan, maintained that people of the ancient

 

clan believe in capacity which necessitated their resolution to support the PDP house of representatives Candidate for

 

Ikwuano/Umuahia federal constituency seat, Chinedum Orji to represent them in green chamber of the national assembly come 2023.

 

His words: “We’re assuring you, Mr Speaker of our maximum support to the actualization of your house of representatives bid to represent the

 

good people of Ikwuano, umuahia north and Umuahia south local government areas which formed the present federal constituency.

 

“You have really done very well in impacting many lives and enhancing the development of umuahia central

 

and entire Abia with visible projects attracted and completed by the contractors. And we’re equally

 

hopeful that you will replicate the wonderful strides you have achieved currently as state lawmaker, in development of every area in

 

Ikwuano/umuahia federal constituency when elected as member of the national assembly in 2023”.

 

Recall that the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon

 

Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji, had on 22nd May, 2022, emerged the House of Representatives Candidate of the

 

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Ikwuano/Umuahia federal constituency seat at a concluded primary election held in Umuahia township stadium.

 

Orji polled 86 votes to defeat five other contestants and his closest rival, Obi Aguocha who scored 8 votes.

 

Others were Mr Chidebere Nwachukwu, John Nwadinobi, John Ndubuisi and Kelechi Onuzuruike pulled two, two, one and nil, respectively.

The Election Committee Chairman, Tony Mezie, said that 99 delegates took part in the exercise.
