It is common knowledge that the world needs to raise $250 billion by 2030 to eradicate tuberculosis, and that of the USD 15 billion annually pledged by world leaders at the UN High Level Meeting in 2018, less than half has been fulfilled.

Only 31% of the USD 373 million required for the TB response in Nigeria in 2020 was made accessible to all parties involved in TB control operations (7% domestic and 24% donor monies), leaving a funding deficit of 69%. With such a financial imbalance, it is impossible to reach our targets

This was contained in a statement by Mr. Mayowa Joel Executive Secretary, Stop TB Partnership Nigeria and made available to newsmen in Abuja.

To this end, the Stop TB Partnership Geneva and Stop TB Partnership Nigeria in collaboration with all stakeholders is embarking on a High-level Mission on Domestic Resource Mobilization to End Tuberculosis in Nigeria. The Mission will hold from Monday 22nd August to Friday, 26th August 2022.

The Mission, which is led by Dr. Lucica Ditiu Executive Director, Stop TB Partnership Geneva also includes the Mr. Austin Obiefuna the Vice-Chair, Board of Stop TB Partnership Geneva and other key personalities from the global and national levels including Patrons, Executive Committee and Board Members of Stop TB Partnership Nigeria; National TB and Leprosy Control Programme (NTBLCP) and representatives from the Private Sector.

During the Mission, there will be opportunity to meet policy makers and senior government officials at the federal and state levels, private sector and other stakeholders to discuss the challenges an recommendations to end TB in Nigeria, especially how to mobilize additional resources through the corporate sector and philanthropists.
