Ayu had made it plain that he had the authority to prevent Ortom and others from running in the elections in 2023.
You won’t move because I will insist that I must sign before you do so, Ayu had said, adding that “I have the authority to stop you.”
But Wike said the PDP chairman lacks integrity and has been corrupt while briefing journalists in Port Harcourt on Sunday.
“If a contestant has what it takes, I dare the National Chairman to disqualify him.
The phrase “he is really corrupt and he is trying to talk” is used in this country, according to Wike.
Wike remembered how Ortom persuaded other governors to overturn the resolution of the governors, who had decided that the National chairperson should not come from a region where a PDP governor is from, and allow Ayu to become party chairman.
“The governors agreed that no national chairman should come from a state where a PDP governor is from, but Ortom arrived, and since he is a man we admire and wants to advance his people and let them participate in national politics, we said okay,” the governor added.
“This is a man (Ayu) who has never campaigned anywhere but now knows that if he wanted to stop the man who brought him and who gave him the assurance, he could. This corruption is what we’re referring to.
He has now taken office, seen wealth and power, and is now able to argue that if he had wanted to halt Ortom, he would have done so.
Look at him, maybe he’s hollow, he doesn’t know anything, he remarked, adding that he can stop any candidate.
I challenge him. If he wins the position of National Chairman, I defy him to disqualify any candidates.
Additionally, Governor Wike revealed that he dealt with Ayu when he reportedly tried to impose a candidate for governor in the state of Rivers.
