The personnel of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) attached to the Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) in Borno State have called on President Muhammadu Buhari and the authorities concerned to intervene in their delayed promotions, 12 months after they were recommended by the Controller General.
Operation Hadin Kai is the counterinsurgency operation responsible for the fight against Boko Haram and the Islamic State West African Province (ISWAP) terrorists group in the North East.
In 2020, the Nigerian government deployed 210 NIS operatives to the region as part of measures to combat terrorism.
However, some of the officers lamented over their unpaid allowance and delayed promotions.
They accused the authorities of abandoning them, adding that they are confused, depressed, destabilised, less productive and criminally minded.
“Sadly, most of us who are personnel of the Nigeria Immigration Services attached to Operation Hadin Kai Maiduguri have been promoted since 2021 despite an order from the former Controller General. We have been in Borno facing Boko Haram war for years now but no allowance,” one of the affected officers told SaharaReporters.
“All our colleagues on special operations in other states are enjoying allowances. But all of us sent to Maiduguri for Boko Haram operation were dumped here. We don’t know our offence. Nothing is being done to us in this operation and we can’t talk; they will say it is mutiny.
“Let me just say we are stranded here, our commander is not helping the matter, each time we raise these issues with him, he would start threatening us with mutiny.”
