On Thursday, October 20, Datti said during an appearance on a Channels Television program that there had been instances of procedural abuse and civil rights violations during the demonstration.

He stated:

“There were violations of procedures and human rights, and if some people see it as a massacre, then absolutely. Massacre, though, has several different technical definitions. I can’t claim to know everything.

“First of all, there was no warning offered before to the attack. In their own neighborhoods, the victims must have been attacked.

“These are well-intentioned Nigerians who came out into the open and were attacked by security personnel who were there to keep them safe and safeguard their property.

“The usage of the word’massacre’ is hotly disputed, although there were definitely procedural abuses and civil rights violations,”
