The House, which had previously supported gender equality, praised the state government for making every effort to protect girls.

Mudashiru Obasa, the Speaker, presided over a session to honor the International Girl Child Day in 2022.

The legislators expressed their gratitude to non-governmental organizations for advocating on their behalf.

According to Obasa, the International Day offers a forum for discussing issues including cultism, trafficking, drug misuse, and crimes against kids.

He continued, “It is also a chance to scrutinize the effectiveness of government organizations tasked with protecting the girl child.”

The motion’s sponsor, Hon. Mojisola Alli-Macaulay, stated the year’s theme, “Our Time is Now – Our Rights Our Future,” aims to recognize girl power, inclusiveness, and political engagement.

The chairman of the House Committee on Women’s Issues and Poverty Alleviation highlighted that girls all over the world have expressed interest in politics, the arts, education, issues of poverty, the environment, climate change, etc.

The adoption of the Child Right Law and the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency Law by the Assembly, according to Alli-Macaulay, were two accomplishments of the legislature.

Meanwhile, the second reading of the “Bill for a Law to Amend the Office of the Public Defender Law, 2015” has been approved.
