The Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) has ordered the closure of Cynosure Associate Super Stores, located at 18, Lateef Salami Street, in Ajao Estate, for stocking expired goods. Valuepoint Supermarket, also on the same street, has received a similar non-compliance order for stocking expired goods.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!The Monitoring and Enforcement team of the Agency visited the Cynosure supermarket on Monday, September 12, 2022, during a normal monitoring exercise where several commodities displayed were noted to have expired, according to the General Manager of LASCOPA, Mr. Afolabi Solebo, Esq.
Therefore, the squad, according to him, instructed the supermarket’s management to remove the indicated products off the shelf. However, the store allegedly ignored the order once the gang returned a few days later.
Due to their refusal to comply, a letter of invitation was sent to the Cynosure management, and as a result, the supermarket was ultimately sealed on Friday, October 14, 2022.
In a similar vein, he said that Valuepoint Supermarket, which is located on the same street, had received a non-compliance order from the LASCOPA Monitoring and Enforcement team for the display of expired goods.
“The exercise is to serve as a deterrent to other supermarkets and sales outlets that are in the habit of trampling on the rights of consumers, some of whom are often ignorant or in a hurry to check the expiration date of products that they want to buy”, he added.
While charging consumers not to hesitate to report any supermarket or shops within the state where such products are sold, Solebo enjoined residents to always ensure to check the information contained on the label of items about to be purchased.
Reiterating that LASCOPA services are free, the general manager urged all members of the public to send their complaints about any goods or services to the agency at 2b, Soji Adepegba Close, off Allen Avenue, Ikeja or send them via email to lascopa@lagosstate.gov.ng and lascopa@gmail.com for a prompt response.
