After entering a guilty plea on Wednesday, Texas resident Lauren Kay Dean was given a life sentence plus 20 years for endangering a child in connection with the death of Jordynn Barrera in Bay City in January 2020.

Jordynn was bedridden, had Down syndrome, and cerebral palsy. She needed daily, round-the-clock care and used a feeding tube, but Dean’s reckless actions caused her daughter to pass away as she went to a nearby bar to party with friends.

To check on Dean’s welfare, police in Bay City, Texas went to his flat.

According to ABC13, when they approached Dean, she invited them inside to demonstrate that the kids were okay. Instead, they discovered Jordynn, age 7, dead.

Dean was then accused of neglecting the child and killing her.

Jordynn was a non-verbal child who had previously received diagnoses of cerebral palsy and Down syndrome. The girl was only able to eat through a feeding tube, according to the authorities.

The apartment also contained Dean’s two other kids, who were five and three months old.

According to records, Dean was detained and lodged in the Matagorda County Jail after being charged with three second-degree felonies: abandonment, endangering a child, and impending bodily harm.

On October 5, Dean entered a plea agreement to escape the death penalty and a jury trial.

She entered a plea of guilty to three counts of child abandonment and capital murder of a person under the age of ten.
