While deeply appreciating the call from the Movement for Good Governance and Democracy and other Nigerians who have voiced concerns that he should have been included in the list of those recently given national awards by President Muhammadu Buhari, Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State has stated that his focus is on serving the people of the State.

According to Cezzatech, President Muhammadu Buhari presented selected Nigerians with the national honorary degrees of Commander of the Order of the Niger, CON, and Commander Of the Order Of the Federal Republic on October 11. (CFR).

After the occasion, some of the governor of Benue’s supporters questioned his exclusion from the list of prize recipients.

In response, Governor Ortom stated in a statement released by his special adviser for media and publicity, Terver Akase, that he is grateful for the honor and ongoing support the people of Benue have shown him since 2015.

The governor pleaded with the interested parties and organizations to avoid making a big deal out of the awards and to instead pray for him as he continues to serve Benue State and the nation.

“The Governor continues to be grateful to Almighty God for giving him the ability to manage the state and contribute to nation-building.

The statement said, “He congratulates all recipients of the National Honours Awards and encourages them to continue their selfless sacrifices to the country.”
