A woman named Cecilia Idowu has been charged by the Nigeria Police Force’s Ondo State command with murdering her renter Stephen Haruna and disposing of his body in a well. The case is being heard in Akure, the state capital.
On Oke-Igbala Street in the state’s Oge, Okeagbe, Akoko, and Akoko North-West Local Government Area, the incident took place.
The 55-year-old lady was charged with two offenses that have elements of both murder and conspiracy.
The defendant allegedly planned to perpetrate the crimes with those still at large, according to the police prosecutor, Mr. Simon Wada. He said that the defendant gave Haruna palm oil to drink at midnight, which caused his death.
He further told the court that when the victim passed away, the defendant asked a few others to help her bury his body in a well inside her property.
Sections 516 and 316 of the Criminal Code Law of Ondo State, 2022, according to Wada, were violated by the offenses.
In a request, the prosecution urged the court to confine the prisoner to the Olokuta Custodial Center in Akure until the Directorate of Public Prosecutions issued its opinion.
However, A. Adedire, the defense attorney, requested a postponement from the court so that he could submit a counter-affidavit to the prosecutor’s application.
Musa Al-Yunnus, the Chief Magistrate, postponed the case until October 31, 2022, so that he could rule on the remand motion.
