According to Cezzatech, Buhari has repeatedly stated that the judiciary will determine Kanu’s destiny.

The president had said in response to requests for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the imprisoned leader of the illegal Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), made by regional traditional, religious, and political leaders:

“I have carefully considered the many pleas made by the elders to the traditional leaders regarding a variety of choices, and as I have stated earlier, this subject remains entirely within the purview of the courts where it will be fairly decided.”

The IPOB leader, however, was just recently exonerated by the Court of Appeal.

The Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, stated that Kanu will not be released any time soon, therefore the jubilation that greeted the court judgment is progressively waning.

The National President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, commented on the incident by saying that President Buhari should demonstrate leadership by honoring his own statements.

Okwu stated on Tuesday that it is “a source of worry” that the Buhari-led administration is taking its time to follow the Appeal Court’s judgment over Nnamdi Kanu.

“Recall that the President was repeatedly asked by Igbo leaders and the world community to apply a political solution to Kanu’s issue, but he insisted that the court would make that decision. Abubakar Malami, the purported Chief legal officer of the federation, is busy misleading the government now that the court has ruled in Kanu’s favor.

“We implore Mr. President to demonstrate leadership; he should respect the rule of law; the federal government of Nigeria disobeying legal court rulings is sending the wrong signal to the people and the international community.”

To achieve complete peace and security in the South-East and the South-South, Okwu said that the President should direct the DSS to obey that order and release Kanu without delay.
