Olusegun Obasanjo, a former president, bemoaned the poor state of the nation’s roadways, stating it was preventing people from moving about and conducting business.

Obasanjo made this brief comment on Thursday, October 20, during a lecture given by Chief Mike Ozekhome titled, “The Place of Education in a Crisis-ridden Nigeria,” to commemorate the university’s 10th convocation event in Ado Ekiti ( ABUAD).

The former President explained his tardiness to the convocation lecture by saying he traveled for a long time to get to Ado Ekiti, the state capital.

 

Accept my sincere apologies for arriving late to this occasion. I reasoned that by leaving Abeokuta at 4.30 am, I would arrive at ABUAD by 10 am. But as we reached the halfway point of the voyage, the state of our roads was poor “explained he.

“We started speculating on the most efficient path to take to reach Ado Ekiti. Please excuse me; it was difficult getting here.” Added he.

Ozekhome, who confirmed Obasanjo’s assertion, claimed that on Wednesday, due to the deteriorating state of the roads, it took him almost eight hours to go from Abeokuta to Ado Ekiti.
