The Peoples Democratic Party’s nomination of Sherrif Oborevwori, speaker of the Delta state assembly, as its candidate for governor, has been upheld by the Supreme Court (PDP).

A five-member bench of the Supreme Court, chaired by Amina Augie, confirmed the Abuja court of appeal’s decision establishing Oborevwerie as the proper PDP candidate for the state governorship election in a judgement issued on Friday, October 21.

Oborevwori received 590 votes in the PDP primary this year, defeating David Edevbie, the finance commissioner under the James Ibori administration, who received 113 votes. Edevbie filed a lawsuit to challenge Oborrevwori’s selection as the PDP governorship candidate.

 

While Ifeanyi Okowa, the governor of Delta, favors Oborevwori, a former governor named James Ibori is alleged to be supporting Edevbie.
