The CAN President said that CAN is known for its stand on non-partisanship in response to the names of several departing executives of the Christian organization appearing on the list.
Okoh added that the Christian organization would look into the situation. The declaration said;
- The names of a few departing members of the body were included in the updated list of the Tinubu/Shettima 2023 President Campaign Council members, which has caught my attention as the president of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).
- This development is concerning because it goes against CAN’s well-known position on partisanship.
-
I want to utterly absolve my lowly self of this development and all others like it that might take place in the future.
-
I want to utilize this opportunity to reassure the general public and all Nigerian Christians that I have started a thorough investigation into how the officials were involved in overt partisanship as soon as I heard the news.
-
In order to protect the principles of the umbrella Christian organization that I lead by the grace of the Almighty God, CAN will take fair, but firm, and appropriate action following the investigation.
-
As a last point, I urge everyone to maintain their composure as we try to ingrain an inclusive culture and respect for our religious diversity in our political leadership.
Signed:
President of the Christian Association of Nigeria is Archbishop Daniel Okoh.
