The celebration will be held in Paris, and three players with Spanish residences will take home the top three prizes of the evening, according to Marca.
For the first time in his career, Benzema will receive the Ballon d’Or award, while Gavi of Barcelona and Thibaut Courtois of Real Madrid will receive the Kopa Trophy and the Yashin Trophy, respectively, for best goalkeeper and best young player in the world.
The Real Madrid captain led the Spanish powerhouses to a LaLiga title triumph and an upset over Liverpool to win their 14th European Cup title. He scored 27 goals last season and led all scorers in the Champions League with 15 goals.
If Benzema wins, along with Mane and Lewandowski, it will be the first time since 2006 that neither Lionel Messi nor Cristiano Ronaldo are in the top three.
Luka Modric was the last Real Madrid player to win the Ballon d’Or in 2018, and Benzema will mark the eighth different Madrid player to take home the trophy.
Thibaut Courtois, Benzema’s Real teammate, will win the Yashin award to go along with his Golden Gloves victory at the 2018 World Cup.
The Belgian was nominated alongside Alisson Becker, Ederson, Mike Maignan, Yassine Bounou ‘Bono’, Edouard Mendy, Manuel Neuer, Jan Oblak, Kevin Trapp, and Hugo Lloris.
