Five people were killed in a struggle for dominance between two competing cult groups, “the Icelanders and Greenlanders,” according to the authorities, in the early hours of Sunday, November 6.
Residents claimed that shooting continued for more than two hours as people ran for safety, despite the fact that the initial reason of the altercation was still unknown.
The story was confirmed by SP Grace Iringe Koko, the public relations officer for the Rivers State Police Command. SP Koko reported that the incident resulted in the deaths of five people. According to the police spokeswoman, the state Police Command’s tactical squad had been sent to the area to help things return to normal.
She stated: “Five people are claimed to have died in a battle that seemed to be for supremacy.
“Chukwuemeka Kingsley, 36, and Chibuike Thankgod, 28, were among the deceased. Three further bodies have not yet been identified.
While the investigation into the event is ongoing, tactical police teams have been mobilized to the area to restore normalcy.
