Adejoh Siaka, a police officer assigned to the Rivers State Police Command, has been downgraded from Inspector to Sergeant as a result of complaints and information gleaned from a video that went viral on social media on April 9th.

A police officer brandishing a gun was seen in a viral video slapping a driver twice while the latter was yelling for his offence after being struck by the officer with a stick.
On Tuesday, April 18, the Force Provost Marshal conducted an orderly room trial before announcing Muyiwa Adejobi’s promotion.He claimed that Siaka had received punishment for assault, dishonourable behaviour, and impoliteness towards members of the public in the Emuoha region of the oil-rich state.
The incident’s Sergeant Ndiwa Kpuebari, who was also on the scene but did nothing to stop the improper behaviour, received a reprimand. Inspector Friday Obaka, a third officer who later turned out to have been absent from the incident, “was discharged unconditionally at the conclusion of the proceedings.”

The three police officers will all be transferred from Rivers State to other commands and formations to carry out their police work.
“Therefore, in order to ensure compliance with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), the Inspector General of Police has charged officers and men of the Force to be diligent and uphold the lofty tenets of professional policing in the discharge of their duties.”
