However, Ohanaeze asked the administration of Buhari to rename the Second Niger Bridge in honor of Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu.

The statement was made by Ohanaeze Secretary-General Okechukwu Isiguzoro as he praised the Buhari administration for building the bridge.

He claimed that Buhari’s pledge to Nigerians and Igbos was fulfilled with the opening of the bridge.

Recall that the Second Niger Bridge’s completion was declared by Babatunde Fashola, Minister of Works and Housing. https://dailypost.ng/2022/10/19/second-niger-bridge-completed-fashola/

Fashola did reveal that portions of the bridge’s connection roads were still being built, though.

Isiguzoro responded by releasing a statement that read in part: “Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has praised the Federal Government’s giant strides in the realization of the second Niger Bridge up to 95% according to the Ministry of Works. We received the happy news from the Minister of Works, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, as the fulfillment of the Government’s promises to the Nigerian people in general and Ndigbo in particular, and it will strengthen the level of people

We are aware that there are still 3.3 km and 7 km, respectively, of unfinished road leading from the Asaba and Anambra axes of the second Niger Bridge.

“We are confident that the contractors will move quickly to complete the 10.3 km of roads from both axes of the roadways so that commuters and other road users can benefit from the 2nd Niger Bridge throughout the Christmas and New Year’s holiday season.

The suggested name of “Buhari’s Bridge” should be changed because this is a legacy project that Ndigbo would always refer to as the mother of all infrastructural developments finished by Buhari’s Government.

“The announcement of the completion of the 2nd Niger Bridge including a 35km bypass road connecting Anambra and Delta States through a concession under a Public Private Partnership scheme has restored the confidence of Ndigbo that the 2015 electoral promises, which included the revamping of the Enugu Coal Mine, will be kept, but Ndigbo are relieved of unbelievable treaties of previous Governments on the second Niger bridge and also pardon President Buhari over his inability to fulfill other promises.

Ndigbo is appreciative of this accomplishment and has urged President Buhari to complete further projects in the southeast by May 2023.
