“Sen. Orji /Kalu applauds ASUU: – for suspending – strike:

Sen. Orji Kalu (APC-Abia North), the Senate Chief Whip, has praised ASUU for calling off its eight-month strike.

Kalu urged the Federal Government and ASUU to find a middle ground to stop further strikes in a statement he released in Abuja.

He applauded the government’s legislative and executive branches for maintaining contact with the union representing universities.

The significance of affordable and high-quality education for the growth of the nation was emphasized by the former governor of Abia, who is now an entrepreneur in the education industry.

Kalu reminded the Federal Government and ASUU of his free education program while he was governor of Abia and encouraged them to find a permanent solution to the welfare of lecturers.

From May 1999 to May 2007, Kalu served as the governor of Abia.

 

“As a steadfast supporter of high-quality, reasonably priced education, I’m thrilled that ASUU has called off its eight-month strike.

“In an effort to terminate the strike, I had been in regular contact with a variety of union members.

To prevent future strikes, “both parties must find common ground.

“Education is the answer to all development problems, so it should be the government’s primary priority in setting policy.”

Government faces financial difficulties, no doubt, but he expressed optimism that the Federal Government and ASUU would cooperate to raise educational standards.

ASUU began its strike on February 14 in protest of inadequate funding for higher education and in favor of members’ salaries being paid through a digital platform created by colleges.
