The Senate has approved 19 Resident Electoral Commissioners for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Following discussion of the Senate Committees on Electoral Matters’ reports, their nomination was approved on Wednesday, October 5.
The committee’s chairman, Kabiru Gaya (APC, Kano), claimed in his report that the candidates were questioned about their partisanship and party affiliation.
The petitions against four nominees, which allegedly accused them of being members of political parties, partisanship, compromise, and ineptitude, according to Gaya, who insisted that they are not registered members of any political party, had
no merit.
Ibrahim Abdullahi (from Adamawa), Obo Effanga (from Cross River), Agboke Olaleke (from Ogun), Samuel Egwu (from Kogi), Onyeka Ugochi (from Imo), Muhammed Bashir (from Sokoto), and Ayobami Salami are among those whose participation has been confirmed (Oyo),
Others include Mohammad Nura from Yobe, Hudu Yunusa from Bauci, Uzochukwu Chijioke from Anambra, Yahaya Ibrahim Makarfi from Kaduna, Nura Ali from Kano, Agu Uchenna from Enugu, and Ahmed Yushau Garki from the FCT.
Also confirmed was Muhammad Sabo Lamido’s nomination to the position of Executive Commissioner, Finance and Accounts, Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Agency.
