“‘The beauty isn’t out there, it’s down here: – Actor William Shatner says, going to space on Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin rocket felt like ‘a funeral, and filled him with overwhelming sadness:

William Shatner, a Star Trek actor, talked about his feelings after visiting space.

Shatner claimed that viewing Earth from space on Jeff Bezo’s Blue Origin rocket was a profoundly depressing experience, but one that made him appreciate our planet’s beauty.

When he turned his eyes away from the Earth and toward the dark expanse of space during his suborbital space tourism flight last year, he made a very clear observation: “All I saw was death,” he said in a new book.

After his memorable stint playing a spaceship captain on the 1960s TV show “Star Trek” and several franchise movies in the following decades, Shatner’s biography, “Boldly Go,” which he co-wrote with TV and film writer Joshua Brandon, is replete with similar grim anecdotes about his experience bolting above the Earth’s atmosphere aboard a real-life rocket.

“I saw a chilly, ominous, black void. There was no other darkness like it elsewhere on Earth. It was profound, engulfing, and all-pervasive. My back was now to the light of my house. The beige of the desert, the white of the clouds, the blue of the sky, and the curvature of the Earth were all visible to me. Life itself. fostering and maintaining life. Mama Earth. Gaia. In an extract from “Boldly Go,” which was first released by Variety, the author says, “And I was leaving her.

It states, “Everything I had believed was false.” “Everything I had anticipated seeing was incorrect.”

Below, you may read a transcript of the book that CNN released.

I read Rachel Carson’s book “Silent Spring” fifty-five or sixty years ago. She discussed current environmental problems in her writing. Since then, I have been a verbal ecologist. I’ve been concerned about how the Earth is changing and how it will affect all of us.

It’s comparable to someone who owes money on a mortgage but cannot make the payments. They then decide to go out to supper and stop worrying about it.

But it’s everywhere! The likelihood of the end of the world is quite real. It’s challenging to persuade people — particularly some political figures — that this issue is no longer at our doorstep. It is within the home.

I was eager to hurry to the window as soon as I reached space so I could see what was outside. I turned to face the void of space. There weren’t any bright lights. There was nothing but utter darkness. I thought I had seen death.

I then turned to face the planet Earth. Given my background and the several articles I’ve read about Earth’s evolution during its five billion-year history and how all of nature’s beauty has developed, I considered how we’re destroying everything.

I was overcome by a deep melancholy for the planet.

It wasn’t until I sat down that I realized it. I started crying as soon as I left the spacecraft. I had no idea why. It took me several hours to realize why I was crying. I acknowledged that I was grieving for the Earth.

The significance of the event is something I never want to forget and never have forgotten.

I was conscious of the possibility that humans are the only creature existing on this planet who are conscious of the vastness and beauty of the cosmos.

Consider what we’ve learned in the past 100 years alone, compared to the 200,000 years that humans have been on the planet. We now understand how mountains created through the Big Bang. And I kept reflecting on how humanity is gradually becoming a knowledgeable creature while also destroying itself.
