A bomb exploded at around 4:20pm local time on a busy shopping street in the Taksim Square area of central Istanbul, killing at least six people and injuring several others.
In response to the incident, Nigerian President Buhari “expressed the shock and sadness of the Nigerian people.”
He assured “Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan that the Turkish government and people will continue to support them in the global war on terrorism.”
“The government and people of Nigeria’s thoughts and prayers are with the families of the innocent people killed, and we wish full and speedy recovery to those injured,” President Buhari said.
Mallam Garba Shehu, the President’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, issued a statement condemning the bombing.
According to Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay, the bomb was detonated by a woman.
The analysed CCTV footage shows her sitting on a bench for more than 40 minutes.
The suspect, who is being investigated, left behind a bag that exploded minutes after she walked away.
