On Monday, October 31, AA Zaura, who was charged with scamming a Kuwaiti national of $1.3 million, skipped his arraignment after the Court of Appeal threw out the previous discharge and acquittal decision and mandated a new trial.

The defendant, who was also absent on October 14, is nowhere to be located, according to the prosecution attorney and head of legal for the EFCC, Aisha Habib, and his absence from court constituted a complete disdain for the court.

Ibrahim Waru, Zaura’s attorney, however, informed the court that his client is exempt from appearing in person because they had submitted an interlocutory application contesting the court’s jurisdiction. He continued by saying that a medical report had been received and that his client was not physically capable of standing trial.

Justice Mohammad Nasiru Yinusa ordered that Zaura’s attorney submit a written request stating whether or not the defendant should appear in court before the matter was continued to November 10.
