Some of those being urged to return were unintentionally laid off, Bloomberg said. The workers, who asked not to be identified since the conversation involved private information, claimed that they were fired before management learned that their expertise and skills could be required to develop the new features Musk wants.
Last Friday, Twitter fired about 3,700 employees via email. After being unexpectedly denied access to business networks like Slack and email, several employees discovered they had been fired.
Musk tweeted on Friday night that there was “no choice” because the business was losing more than $4 million per day.
Everyone who was let go received a three-month severance package, which is 50% more than what the law requires, he noted.
About 3,700 people are still employed by the business. Musk is pressuring those who are still working to create and install new features as soon as possible.
