Alvine Dah-Zossu, the captain of the Flamingos, has turned her focus to the team’s upcoming match against New Zealand in the wake of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup loss to Germany.

The girls of Bankole Olowookere’s team lost to the Europeans 2-1 in their opening match of the biennial championship on Tuesday.

 

On the hour mark, Miracle Usani netted a free kick to give the Nigerian women the lead in the match.

In the second half, the tenacious Germans battled back and scored twice thanks to Svea Stoldt and Mara Alber.

Dah-Zossu has rallied her teammates to focus on getting their campaign back on track against New Zealand despite being dissatisfied with the game’s outcome.

 

Dah-Zossu remarked after the game, “Unfortunately, we couldn’t win. We gave it our all, but it wasn’t good enough to earn us victory.

 

It’s difficult to be on the losing team, but we’ll pick ourselves up and play New Zealand again soon, she said.

At the Pandit Jawaharlal Stadium in Goa, the Flamingos will play New Zealand on Friday.
