“UN chief departs New York: – on 2-day visit to India:

On Monday, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres left on a two-day trip to India, where he would participate in a gathering on India and the UN Partnership.

At a press conference in New York, UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric announced that Guterres would also take part in the opening of the Lifestyle for Environment Mission.

 

He stated that the secretary-general will meet with both the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, and the Indian Minister of External Affairs, [Subrahmanyam] Jaishankar, during his two-day visit beginning on Tuesday.

He will also go to a demonstration project location, which was just named India’s first solar-powered hamlet.

The secretary-general will see firsthand at the location how the community is benefiting from the installation of solar roofing on more than 1,300 rural homes.

 

The secretary-general would then travel to Viet Nam to participate in a ceremony honoring the country’s 45th anniversary of joining the United Nations, according to Dujarric.

 

“While there, he will meet with prominent Vietnamese leaders including the Prime Minister, Pham Minh Chinh, the State President, Nguyen Xuan Phuc, and the General Secretary of the Communist Party, Nguyen Phu Trong.

The spokesperson stated, “The Secretary-General will also take part in a dialogue with Vietnamese youngsters.”
