The agenda was introduced on Monday in Owerri by Uzodimma, who claimed that it was based on six strategic pillars meant to coordinate digitalization efforts for the state’s economy.

The pillars are advocacy, monitoring and evaluation, collaboration and partnership, strong infrastructure, service infrastructure, and digital literacy and skill.

The state commissioner for digital economy and e-government, Mr. Chimezie Amadi, spoke on behalf of Uzodimma, who stated that the agenda’s implementation will create the groundwork for the digitalization of state government institutions.

According to him, the goal of the policy statement was to maximize the potential of ICT, offer fresh approaches to developmental problems, and promote economic growth and competitiveness.

He continued by saying that it will improve social inclusion, poverty eradication, and access to knowledge and information.

In order to support rapid pace-based social and economic growth in the State, the agenda will promote strategic partnerships with the digital ecosystem and accelerate broadband penetration across towns and villages.

The Federal Government’s policy trust of diversifying the economy through the deployment of digital technology, he said, is supported by Imo being the first State to establish a Ministry of Digital-Economy and E-Government.

He continued by saying that Imo would become the hub for digital skills in Africa if the Imo Digital Economy Agenda (IDEA) 2022–2026 was fully implemented.

Additionally, he stated that it would support the development of smart cities that make use of digital technology to foster innovation, entrepreneurship, and governance while fostering value creation and universal prosperity.

Additionally, he said that continued programs for digital literacy and skill development would place Imo as Africa’s top provider of market-entry and high-level digital capabilities, opening new prospects.
for Imo Digital Status to address regional and international issues.

He said that the agenda would foster an environment that would inspire ground-breaking, cutting-edge solutions to local and global problems using emerging technology as well as improve critical thinking and complicated problem-solving abilities.

Other anticipated results will include, but not be limited to, creating an environment that will encourage participation from the public and private sectors, civil societies, and development partners in training five million Nigerians, including Imo people, in technology skills. This will snowball into the creation of a Digital Skills Database to identify Nigerians who are digitally literate and their levels of competence.

Since the majority of the population resides in rural areas, villages, and communities, the initiative also targets Imo State’s 27 local government areas (LGAs) in an effort to reach them.

It will organize programs for children in the so-called “catch them young” movement utilizing teaching methods that will pique their attention.

According to him, the program’s main goal is to satisfy their wants so they may be helpful to themselves, the state’s economy, and the entire globe by the time it is over.
