The Peoples Democratic Party has to apologise to Nigerians, according to Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, for Atiku Abubakar’s advise to Northerners this weekend.

Atiku stated that Northerners do not require an Igbo or Yoruba as President during his speech at a gathering hosted by Northern Elders last weekend.
He stated:
“I am familiar with the whole nation. I have erected bridges all over this nation. The typical northerner, in my opinion, requires someone who is from the north, who also comprehends the other regions of Nigeria, and who has been successful in bridging those gaps.
“The northerner needs something like this. Neither an Igbo nor a Yoruba candidate are required by him (the northerner). The northerner requires this. I’m a northern-born pan-Nigerian who stands before you.
Even though Atiku making such a statement at a crucial juncture in the country’s history is unlikely, Wike said in a speech in Port Harcourt on Monday, October 16, shortly after arriving from Spain, that the presidential candidate’s attitude would support his fight for equity, justice, and fairness in the PDP.
According to The Nation, the governor of Rivers state urged the PDP to intervene quickly and make a public appeal to Nigerians in order to prevent the perception of the party as lacking in fairness and equity.
